This looks very like the views of an old colleague of mine, also called Clive Higgins. If it is then he can confirm to my number whether he is till in the UK. more…

You may be sure that should he ever be in the same position again a prenup will be drawn up by the most expensive lawyer I can find.
I did produce him a, almost joking, form to carry in his pocket so that should he ever be tempted to buy a woman a drink he first gets her to sign a disclaimer." purchase by me of this drink for consumpt more…

You need to read 'The Laundrymen' by Jeffrey Robinson'. For a few idea's but above all for inspirationn.
If nothing else, sell up assets and tell the courts most of it was lost at a casino. They have trouble (and i mean huge next to almost impossible, and thats the Serious Fraud Squad+interp more…

Now here is a subject for an extended endless debate, the mass debate of my original title perhaps.
A good comparative study can be derived from comparing the Indian continent with that of Africa.
First we have to put to one side, temporarily, a section of both continents as they introduce a confusing religious element, Islam, into a deb more…

I always wonder what makes the African continent poor? Is it because of the absence of an instituional setup?
I have a feeling that this could be a big reason.
Africa and India can be studied parallely, I think.
Both are large regions with enormous diversity. Both were colonised and both suffer from some of the worst socio econo more…

Very true!
But Mr. Higgins, it would be great if you could write more .
I am slightly disappointed that you do not write often enough.
People like me are waiting to consume more of your thought provoking and brilliant write ups!

This is becoming an interesting discussion, I agree it is dangerous to extrapolate what happened in history and assume automatically that it will happen again.
China & India will hold an influencial position due to the sheer weight of numbers as between them they will be the majority of mankind.
However I do not believe that more…

Well, it is easier to play safe and say that China and to a lesser extent India will eventually become developed following the footsteps of UK/France and rest of W Europe, US, post war Germany, Japan and South Korea. I find it a little hazardous to extrapolate this way. One should understand that the western nations and Japan had the luxury of usi more…

You raise some interesting issues. I think we have to set all these things against the fact that change is the only constant. If we add the fact that all things have a natural life cycle then we see that whatever an individual does, let alone a nation, there is a certainty that it will eventually change and be replaced by something else.
The more…

But can we ever think of coming of China as a super power without United States' role as the primary market for world's goods and services? I do not know much about history, but I believe there was a similar hue and cry about United States' inability to compete when Japan was in the midst of its heady days of prosperity in the 70s and 80s. What hap more…

A very good point, the American inability to live within their means has resulted in huge parts of the USA being owned or mortgaged to, principally, the Japanese and Chinese.
The Chinese are now the biggest purchasers of Dollars as this keeps the exchange rate of their own currency, the yuan, artificially low. America either doesn't understa more…

Good post - though America was a latecomer in our genocide perpetrated against Ireland, which goes back to Elizabethan times and was orchestrated by the poet/lapdog Edmund Spenser.

I accept and agree that the USA is the biggest, and probably the most bigoted, perpetrator of terrorism. The Brits have, I was going to say living proof, of this in their own back yard; Northern Ireland. Where thousands died in a war funded by the American people.Having watched as friends were killed by the PIRA funded by the USA, am I alone in bel more…

"I don't believe the USA is knowingly the biggest perpetrator of extremism its just has a hopelessly romantic and naive view of what makes the World tick. The USA collectively seems to believe that the outside world is just North Carolina with a sun tan, if only............."

America cannot exist without War. It's whole economy has been dependent on it since the last world war. And Bush is just one in a long sequence of American warmonger neo-imperialists. Iran will be next - within 2 months. more…

A Good Post. Thanks. Rhodesia is a timely 'bookmark' in the past. But now the picture is much bigger than taking over The Middle East. The more I look and the more I think the greater my certainty that our value system has gone badly wrong.
I see the UK now grades its terrorists into 2 groups, Irish - good, Islamic - bad sadly its only a few years ago that the roles were reversed. When Saddams IRAQ was keeping the Iranians away from the Saudi oil the West, in addition more…

So true.
I always wonder why so many nations across the world are/were in political turmoil, especially over the past couple of decade?
I dont know if I am wrong, but I believe these are all figments of cold war era. I despise the radicals of all forms, that includes the Islamic radicals as well. Yet I always feel there is an iot more…
